The Environmentalist in Sweden

The sea is where I live. The ocean is my home. It’s a big part of my daily life to keep it clean. More than a year ago, I had a Lady Captain onboard M.T. Ardea who advise me to save all the mineral water bottles that we received in Sweden and return it to the disposal center for deposit.

And I did, with the cooperation of all our crew I saved more than 500 bottles. Each bottles has a SEK 2.00 (about $0.30 cent US Dollar ) deposit. I’m not very good in math but I believe it will be more than a thousand swedish kroners or around $150.00 US Dollars!!! Whoa… thats a a lot of money. And of course, a lot of garbage  we save for recycling.

I was so happy and proud! Doing something for the environment. But I think what I did was not enough, whenever I encounter bad weather at sea I always ask the sea why is she so angry? I told her that I have done all my best to save and protect the sea.

Then I thought King Neptune whats me to do something more that saving ang protecting the sea and environment. He wants me to tell my story. He wants me to tell the world that there’s a lot of ways to keep our home safe and clean. He wants me to make a noise for all the world to know that we are just visitors here. We should do our part and act now!

It has been a week since I join onboard M.T. Mergus and all I encounter was bad weather. And I must say that there’s a big difference from bad weather on land than at sea. Just for the curious minds of some CooksOnboard Wannabe’s, in land, when the weather is bad outside you can still cook properly inside your kitchen. But onboard, when the weather is bad outside then inside your galley will be hell! And all you wish is to survive.

So be good to Mother Nature and she will give back a thousand folds.

Just look what happen to the garbage that we save and dispose properly. She really give back a thousand folds!!!

  1. Well done on the recycling. …nice to get a monetary reward.Tomorrow is our recycling collection, we have bins that we collect plastic, paper, tins and glass.Nice to spend the recycling money on goodies.
I can believe the bad weather is no fun…I get very seasick so would not be a happy camper.☺

  2. Thank you for sharing!! We should all respect our land and home. Just two days ago we had an horrible flood in Genoa…It is not the first time and it won’t be the last…All because we build where we shouldn’t. So sad!

  3. You are back adventuring! I enjoyed the reminder to engage w/ mother nature w/ respect… and loved reading about your bike ride that was for her greater good. LOL – I can imagine cooking in stormy weather onboard is very different than cooking on a rainy day in my house!

  4. Wow! Well done Nino!! Thanks so much for taking care of our ocean, because it really is OUR ocean – it belongs to all of us on this planet! And for now, this is the only planet we have! You and your crew rock! 😀

  5. I think that’s so great, Nino! We try to live by “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. We recycle almost everything. Paper, plastic, glass, etc. The city collects them but we don’t get paid. Maybe if we did, there’ll be more people doing it. I hope you stay safe on board. 🙂
