Steamed Rice {3 EASY STEPS to cook it manually.}

Do you have a RICE COOKER at home? Asians normally have atleast one for each family. We do have one at home but it’s not working and my wife don’t bother to get it fix for she believe that its one of the reason of our high electrical bill at the end of every month.

Well here onboard, it is a MUST!!! But what happen if it stop working for some reason??? Kaput ๐Ÿ˜•

You gonna tell your crew that rice is not available because the rice cooker is out of order & etc…etc… ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I don’t think they will buy your alibi… ๐Ÿ™„

Its either you cut some wirings of your electrical stove/hot plate or learn this 3 EASY STEPS.

Now on with the cookingโ€ฆ

Steamed Rice

Prep. time: 2minutes

Cooking time: 20minutes

Serves 4 crew

You will need;

2 cups white rice, wash and rinse on tap water. drain.

4 cups water, pour water to washed rice.

Direction;

STEP 1: Bring rice to a boil on very high heat, When its rolling boil, ย open lid and wait until the water almost dried-up.

STEP 2: Bring back lid and transfer cooking pot to very low heat for 5minutes.{DON’T OPEN THE LID/COVER}

STEP 3: Take out cooking pot from heat and let it stand for another 5minutes.{AGAIN, DON’T OPEN LID/COVER}

That’s it… Now you can open the lid/cover… Enjoy your meal ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here’s how its done:

PREP. BEFORE COOKING 2MINUTES;

Steamed Rice
Pour rice on a heavy bottomed stainless pot.{about 4ltrs. pot capacity}
Steamed Rice
Wash on tap water…
Steamed Rice
Drain RICE WASHING…
Just incase you are also cooking CHICKEN/PORK TINOLA, SINIGANG OR TAHONG SOUP. Try to use this RICE WASHING to these soup and you’ll see the difference.
Steamed Rice
Pour water.
The RATIO = 2parts of water to every 1part of rice.
In this case = 4cups of water to 2cups of rice.

Now we’re ready for some cooking…
Later you go back to this photo to compare the quantity of cooked rice.
Normally it raises to 3times by volume.
Bring rice to a boil on very high heat.
Bring rice to rolling boil on very high heat.

Open lid…
Steamed Rice
…and wait until the water almost dried-up.
Steamed Rice
Bring back lid and transfer cooking pot to very low heat for 5minutes.{DON’T OPEN THE LID/COVER}
Steamed Rice
Take out cooking pot from heat and let it stand for another 5minutes.{AGAIN, DON’T OPEN LID/COVER}
Steamed Rice
That’s it… Now you can open the lid/cover…

  1. Hmmm! And asians can eat rice forever! 3x a day for some. Im always cooking rice pilaf here. This one makes me feel home sick. Still the best way to cook rice, I say. Specially if theres Pandan leaf.
