It’s always a treat to wake up with this warm creamy breakfast. I like to dust it with cinnamon powder and sprinkle some sugar on top. Fresh strawberry makes it perfect.

Summer in Sweden is the best time to buy strawberry(mid-june to end of august). I had a lady Captain a couple of years ago, she ask me if I can learn to make it. Well its not that hard but, its a bit tricky.

After several times of cooking it, I finally find a foolproof way to avoid it from overflowing and burning the bottom of the pot.

Alot of practice and a bit of commonsense really makes it Perfect!!! Its nice to see a BIG grin on my Captain’s face after she finished a bowl of this porridge.

You will need;
1 cup rice(I use “ELDORADO”Grötris of Sweden. Arborio rice, Japanese rice, Calrose rice or just normal white rice is just fine to use)
500 ml water
1 liter freshmilk
pinch of salt
To serve with cinnamon powder and sugar.

Direction;
Rinse rice and place in a 3ltr capacity sauce pot with water. Cover and bring to a boil, take out lid and wait until the water is almost dried-up.
Add milk and pinch of salt, cover with lid.{Now here comes the tricky part!!! When the milk boils,it will overflow even w/o the lid on.} “Believe me, its not easy to clean milk overflow on your cooking stove or hot plate for us onboard. The foolproof way is to transfer your boiling pot to a large frying pan with simmering water bath “Bain Marie”.
Let it simmer on medium heat for 30mins. Checking the water bath{dont let the water dry} and stirring the porridge occasionally. Enjoy!!!

Serves 6-8 crew
